Travel Clinic
Travel Vaccinations
If you are a registered NHS patient at HTMG the following vaccinations are available free on the NHS from our practice. These vaccines protect against diseases which are considered to be the greatest risk to public health if they were brought into the country.
- Cholera
- Diphtheria, polio and tetanus booster
- Hepatitis A - some combined vaccines, such as combined - hepatitis A and B
- Typhoid
There is a fee payable for other travel vaccinations, you can attend HTMG for these but will have to pay for these to be administered, alternatively you can attend a local private clinic.
- Hepatitis B
- Meningitis C and other meningitis vaccines
- Japanese encephalitis
- Rabies
- Tick-borne encephalitis
- Tuberculosis
- Malaria Tablets
Advice and vaccinations are given by the Practice Nurse. Please do not ask any of the care navigators for advice regarding travel vaccines, as they are not medically trained. If you have any queries, you must make an appointment with the Practice Nurse.
We recommend that you have a travel consultation appointment with the nurse at least 12 weeks before you travel, this should allow enough time if a course of vaccinations is required. A 20 minute appointment will be required for each patient who is travelling. Please note the nurse is unable to give advice over the telephone regarding travel vaccinations.

Travelling in Europe
Your rights & EU rules
If you are travelling to Europe the EU has published useful information for travellers on the European website.
As an EU national, you enjoy the right of free movement. This means you’re entitled to travel, work and live in another EU country. If you’re a citizen of a Schengen country – which is most EU countries – you’re also free to travel to other Schengen countries without the need for border checks.
As an EU national, you can also benefit from EU-wide passenger rights for travel into, out of or within the EU by air, rail, bus/coach or ship. You can travel with pets and other animals in the EU provided you comply with the rules (pet passports). There are EU limits on taking alcohol, tobacco or cash with you to another EU country. Each EU country can set its own limits or restrictions, so check before you go.
