Dr Ken Castro Retires
Dear Patient It is with mixed emotions that I have decided to retire at the end of the year on December 12th. I have had the privilege of being involved with many of you and your families for over thirty years.
Throughout my time at the practice I have been supported by my colleagues and wider team. I am confident that I leave a thriving and nurturing practice which I know will continue to provide you all with great care.

Carers Coffee Morning
Join us for a Carers Coffee Morning: Saturday 20th September 2025 at 9am to 12pm Trenchwood Surgery If you provide care for a family member, friend, or neighbour, we’d love to welcome you to our Carers Coffee Morning. This is a relaxed, informal drop-in session — feel free to come along at any time between 9am to 12pm.
Spaces are limited, so to reserve your place: please ask one of our Care Navigators for a booking form.
Transition to Anima Requests for Bookings
We’d like to sincerely thank you for your support and understanding as we transitioned our appointment booking process to online Anima requests. This new system is designed to make accessing care easier and more efficient for you, helping us respond more quickly to your needs. If you’ve submitted an Anima Request by 4.30pm to book a GP/Nurse appointment, please ensure you are available to take a call same day as we aim (not guaranteed) to contact patients on the same day to arrange their appointment. You are still able to call into the Surgery and we will assist you in submitting an Anima if you do not have access to the internet.
Are Your Immunisations Up To Date?
If you are not sure whether your child is up to date with their vaccinations, you can check their Red Book or give us a call at the Surgery. The NHS childhood vaccination programme is free, and these checks will help you see if anything’s missing. Children can still have their vaccines if they have a minor illness (like a cold without a fever), but if they’re feeling poorly with a temperature, it’s best to wait until they’ are better. If your child is due a vaccination, or if you’d like a chat about it, please submit an Anima request to book a Child Immunisation clinic appointment and our Practice Nurse will be happy to help.

Flu and Covid Jabs
Flu season is on its way, and we are now offering flu vaccinations, along with COVID boosters to those eligible, either at the same time or separately depending on your preference. We have started sending invitations for adult flu vaccinations to eligible patients. Clinics begin from 4th October 2025. If we have your mobile number, you will receive a text message with a booking link to arrange your appointment directly. If we don’t have a mobile number on record, we will send you a written invitation.
You can also book by phone via our dedicated flu line, available Monday to Friday, 1pm to 3pm (please select option 2). Child flu clinics will be running in September. Eligible families have been sent invites by text (with a booking link) or by letter if no mobile number is on file.
Our grounds
Many patients have told us how much they enjoy the gardens and grounds at both our surgeries. They do take a lot of care to maintain, so we’d really appreciate your help in keeping them tidy by taking any rubbish home with you. We’re also delighted to let you know that, thanks to a very generous patient donation, we’ve been able to add a beautiful bench outside Trenchwood Surgery and a birdbath outside Hildenborough Surgery for everyone to enjoy.
Hearing Loop:
We now have a hearing loop system in place to support patients with hearing aids. To use it, simply switch your hearing aid to the ‘T’ (telecoil) setting. This will help you hear more clearly during your visit. If you need any help, please ask a member of staff.
Dispensary:
If you live more than a mile (1.6km) from your nearest pharmacy, you can collect your prescriptions directly from our Hildenborough dispensary. We’ll send you a text when your medication is ready, so you don’t have to make an unnecessary trip — and there’s free parking on site to make collection easy.
Comings and Goings
A very warm welcome to Alex and Freya who join the Care Navigation team, Suzanne who joins us as Medical Secretary, Dr Anna Stevenson and Dr Arunjah Krishnarajah who join us as Salaried GP’s.
A sad farewell to Clare who has retired after 37 years of service as a Care Navigator as well as to Sian (Dispensing Assistant) who will be moving on to pastures new.
