How to Make and Cancel an Appointment

You can make or cancel an appoinment by telephone or online using the NHS App or Patient Access if registered.  

Currently, due to the COVID pandemic all appointments are triaged by staff and initial GP appointments are usually by telephone, so you will not be able to book appointments on line, however if the doctor feels you need to be seen he will book you a video or face to face appointment.

In normal circumstances, If you need to be seen that day please contact us as soon as possible as there are limited 'book on the day' slots available, we open at 8 am.  If you need an urgent appointment in the morning you will be offered an appointment with one of the duty doctors, however this may not be your regular GP.  If later in the day you have a medical query that cannot wait until the following day, please phone after 3 pm when you will be asked to leave your details and the duty doctor will call you back, the doctor may be able to assist you over the phone, or may ask you to come to the surgery for an examination.

Our receptionists are receiving training to help them help patients by identifying the most appropriate place for their care and to do this may ask for a brief outline of your problem when you ring to book an appointment.  This is because we have introduced something called “Care Navigation”.  Receptionists will never offer clinical advice or triage; this new way of working is about offering you the choice to see more appropriate professionals in the practice team or even somewhere else. If they can deal with the problem directly, it will often be quicker and means you may not need to see the GP at all.   More Information...

Once registered, you can book your appointment(s) online, order repeat prescriptions and view your medical records if enabled.

Your details and information are protected by the highest standards of online security, so all you need to worry about is what to do with the spare time you’ve earnt.

At both Hildenborough and Tonbridge, consultations are by appointment only. Appointments can be made by telephone, online or in person. Emergency surgeries are held each morning, in which patients are given a guide time to attend. Please note that you may have to wait to see the doctor if the surgery is busy.  Our doctors' surgery times are available on the 'Opening Hours, Surgery times' tab.

At other times, emergencies will be seen either during or after surgery. We run an "open" list system, which means that you may see any doctor, even if you are not registered with him or her. 

However, it is our normal practice to encourage continuity of care with our patients.  Please try to always see the same doctor about a particular problem you have.

Appointments are for ten minutes and for one person only. Please tell the receptionist when booking if you need longer. Online appointments are currently only available for routine doctors appointments and patients must register with the practice to be able to use this facility

If you feel you need to see a doctor urgently later in the day the receptionist may take your details and the doctor will phone you back after 4 pm,  he may be able to give you advice over the phone or will ask you to come in to the evening emergency clinic.

Please bear in mind that the doctors rotas are subject to change. At Leigh and Weald, usually no appointments are necessary and you can  attend during the stated hours, you will be seen although on a busy morning this may involve a long wait.   However, due to the current COVID outbreak these surgeries are currently closed. Extended Hours

Additional surgeries are held on Monday evenings between 6.30pm and 8pm at Trenchwood Medical Centre and on Saturday mornings between 8am and 12pm at Hildenborough Medical Centre.  These surgeries are for pre-booked appointments only and there will be limited access to certain support services, eg phlebotomy, at these times. 

Emergencies will continue to be dealt with by NHS111, the Out of Hours Service, which is accessed by dialling 111.


Telephone Advice

Please telephone before 10.30am. You will be asked to leave your contact details and the doctor will phone you back.  Unless you need advice urgently, you may not be called back the same day.  Please note, all telephone calls to the practice are recorded.

Our staff have strict instructions not to interrupt a GP/patient consultation unless it is an emergency.
